DOTr: New MVIS implementation continues

Department of Transportation (DOTr) Road Sector Senior Consultant Bert Suansing asserted that the implementation of the New Motor Vehicle Inspection System (MVIS) continues in spite of the complaints of some solons and sectors regarding its expensive charge on the yearly vehicle registration.

Currently, there are 25 private testing centers for the new inspection all over the country out of the target of over 200 centers.

According to Transport Expert Rene Santiago, private motor vehicle inspection centers will not be able to accommodate the demand from the motor vehicles. The mandatory inspection may just lead to crowding in testing centers.

In response, Suansing stated that manual inspection can be done for the areas without private MVIS to avoid congestion. The new MVIS aims to thoroughly inspect the road-worthiness of a car to prevent road accidents. – Report from Naomi Tiburcio
