DOTr vetoes delay of mandatory use of RFID

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) vetoed the appeal to delay the mandatory use of the cashless toll transaction starting December 1 in all expressways.

In a statement, the agency disclosed that the program’s primary purpose is to stop the further spread of the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) between motorists and toll personnel. Delaying the program will put many people at risk of the virus.

The DOTr reiterated that there is no need to wait for the RFIDs’ inter-operability since it is only for the convenience of motorists. The RFIDs are free of charge and motorists only have to pay for the load will be paid. There will be no additional expenses for two different RFIDs. – PTV News
