DPWH to Construct 3 By-Pass Roads in Iloilo

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has lined up three (3) major by-pass road projects that will decongest traffic along national highways in the northern and central parts of Iloilo Province.

The by-pass roads costing a total of P394 million will be constructed in Passi City, and the towns of Zaraga, and Barotac Nuevo.

The by-pass road project in Passi City involves the construction of 2.7-kilometer road and 6-span, 30 meter pre-stressed concrete girder (PSCG) type IV-B bridge including approaches and slope protection along Iloilo-Capiz Road in the amount of P143 million.

Trucks that used to ply Iloilo-Capiz Road may soon traverse the by-pass toad, serving as alternate route for hauling when transporting sugarcane to and from the sugar mills without passing through the busy district of Passi.

DPWH will also implement the construction of P100-million by-pass road in Zarraga, Iloilo. The project involves the construction of 1.20-kilometer portland concrete cement pavement (PCCP) and slope protection.

Another by-pass road in Barotac Nuevo, Junction Iloilo East Coast Capiz Road will be implemented, covering the construction of 1.78-kilometer concrete road in an amount of P151 million.

DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the completion of these by-pass roads would boost the economic activities and improve the transport of goods and services in Region 6.

Other than by-pass roads in Iloilo, DPWH is currently undertaking the second phase of the P500-million Kalibo Circumferential Road in Aklan.

The project covers the construction of a new bridge stretching 750 lineal meters, including approaches and right-of-way (ROW) amounting to P250 million. | dpwh-pr
