DPWH inaugurates flagship flyover project in Tagum City

Mindanao’s longest flyover in Tagum, Davao del Norte was officially opened on November 19, 2021 by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

DPWH Acting Secretary Roger G. Mercado led the ceremonial unveiling of marker and drive-thru at the 1.035-kilometer Tagum City Flyover in the most strategic intersection of Daang Maharlika (Agusan – Davao National Highway) and Surigao – Davao Road.

The intersection also serves as a gateway to the northern provinces of Mindanao which draws traders of agricultural products, manufacturers and investors in the services sector in Southern Mindanao.

Tagum City Flyover will contribute to a more robust economic development not only in Tagum, the center of the Province of Davao Del Norte, but also in Mindanao all in all, said Secretary Mercado.

The flyover is one of the flagship infrastructure projects of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte administration’s Build, Build, Build Program.

The inauguration of Tagum City Flyover was also participated by Davao Del Norte 1st District Representative Pantaleon D. Alvarez; DPWH Undersecretary and Build, Build, Build Program Chief Implementer Emil K. Sadain; Undersecretary Eugenio R. Pipo Jr. and Assistant Secretary Ador G. Canlas of DPWH Regional Operations in Mindanao; Region 11 Director Rey Peter B. Gille; and local officials of Davao Del Norte led by Governor Edwin I. Jubahib and Tagum Mayor Allan L. Rellon.

Built in the amount of ₱2.490 Billion, the flyover project addressed traffic congestion not only at its major intersection but also several other minor intersections situated at short
distances from the major intersection.

The lengthy span also encompasses minor intersections which has a significant contribution to the traffic congestion in the area.

Likewise, there are malls and other commercial establishments situated in the vicinity which ingress and egress for vehicles may affect the traffic flow along the national highway where the flyover runs parallel. (DPWH) -rir
