DPWH Leyte gets nod to carry out big projects

CARIGARA, Leyte — The Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) 2nd district engineering office in Leyte got the authority to implement projects with costs exceeding the PHP50-million-limit for field offices.

These projects are the PHP62.54 million rehabilitation of the damaged Jaro-Dagami-Burauen-Lapaz Road; the PHP50.84 million construction of seawall in Dulag town; the PHP8 million construction of access roads leading to the Villaconzolio Agri and Eco-Tourism Farm and Silawa Falls in Jaro town; and PHP150 million construction of the road leading to an economic zone in Barugo town.

District Engineer Carlos Veloso welcomed the authorization to implement bigger projects with a combined amount of PHP348.38 million.

The DPWH gave its Leyte field office authority to carry out big projects starting this year but the special order came out only this week.

“This move aims to minimize the load of the regional office as they noted the capability of our district office to implement the project with all the manpower and equipment,” Veloso said.

In the past, district offices were only authorized to approve and implement infrastructure projects worth PHP50 million.
Big projects were supervised by the regional office.

The project will bring more funds to the district office for the salary of workers.

The field office is entitled to the Engineering Supervision Fund, which is 2 percent of the total project cost.

The district office covers the towns of Barugo, Burauen, Capoocan, Carigara, Dagami, Dulag, Jaro, Julita, La Paz, Mayorga, MacArthur, Pastrana, Tabon-Tabon and Tunga in central Leyte. (PNA)
