DPWH undergo disaster assessment course

Personnel of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) undergo special training on Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) in an effort to strengthen Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Program.

DPWH Region 1 OIC-Director Ronnel M. Tan said that a total of 30 maintenance engineers and employees from the regional and district engineering offices in Ilocos Region attended the training course by the Office of the Civil Defense held in Bauang, La Union that aims to teach the know-how of assessing post-disaster impacts.

Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) is a government-led exercise that provides a platform for the international community and serves as a coordinated and credible basis for reconstruction and recovery planning, incorporates risk reduction measures and financing plans, and provides a systemic link into sustainable development.

“It is imperative that our field personnel are knowledgeable on this matter to enable them come up with quick and effective solutions on the occurrence of natural disasters,” said Director Tan.

Republic Act (RA) 10121, otherwise known as the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010, is the overall legal framework that provides holistic and comprehensive Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) approach.

“As member of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, we shall continue conducting training courses for our personnel to harness their capability in providing help when needed,” added Director Tan. (DPWH-PR)
