DPWH, UP sign MOA on construction, renovation of school facilities

MANILA — Twenty projects involving the construction and renovation of campuses and facility of the state-run University of the Philippines (UP) worth over PHP2 billion will be undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

This after the DPWH and UP signed the memorandum of agreement involving the PHP2.76 billion worth of projects.

It will cover the construction and renovation of school building facilities, dormitories, public restrooms, gymnasium, a water impounding lagoons, road network, and an environmental research and outreach center.

Based on the agreement, DPWH is tasked to procure, supervise and implement the construction and renovation of the 12 projects in Diliman Campus; three projects in Los Baños Campus; one each in Manila, Cebu, Visayas, and Mindanao; and one off-campus facility in Puerto Galera.

The projects in UP-Diliman include the PHP414 million rehabilitation and modernization of Gonzalez Hall-University Library; PHP125-million University Health Service; PHP72.45-million Molave Residence Hall; PHP95.69-million Yakal Residence Hall; PHP82.68-million Kamia Residence Hall; the construction of PHP35-million UP Diliman Multipurpose Hall.

Also part of the multi-billion projects are the PHP200 million Faculty and Staff Housing; PHP600 million Faculty Center; PHP50 million UP Gymnasium; PHP50 million water impounding lagoons, PHP250 Resilience Institute for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, and PHP50 million public restrooms.

In UP-Los Baños, the projects include the construction of Agronomy, Soils, and Horticulture Building Crop Protection Wing, Dormitory for Graduate Students, and a World-Class Multimedia Production Building with an allocation of PHP100 million each.

The DPWH will also undertake the establishment of UP-Manila’s Neuro Science Institute Building amounting to PHP50 million; renovation of UP-Cebu Undergraduate Studies Building costing PHP12.7 million; construction of 3.7-kilometer road network leading to the New Academic Core Zone of UP-Visayas valued at PHP100 million; and the building of the Puerto Galera Biodiversity and Environmental Research and Outreach Center (Phase 1) worth PHP25.9 million. (PR/PNA)
