Dragon Boat capsizes off Boracay, 7 die, 14 survive

BORACAY, Philippines ( 25 September 2019)- Personnel of Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Boracay conducted search and rescue operations on capsized dragon boat with 21 members of Boracay Dragon Force Team onboard at the vicinity waters off Sitio Lingganay, Barangay Manoc-Manoc, Boracay Island, Malay Aklan at around 07:40 this morning, September 25.

Upon receipt of information the team immediately proceeded to the area and conducted search and rescue operations. The team rescued 14 persons from capsized dragon boat. There were 7 casualties.

Identification of the victims will be withheld for the next 24 hours until the next of kin have been notified.

Investigation revealed that the said dragon boat team was having their practice when sudden strong waves hit them which caused the boat to capsize.

The rescued victims were brought to Saint Gabriel Hospital for medical attention.
