The PNP mourns the loss of another hero cop during an armed encounter in Caloocan City with illegal drug suspects.
PNP Chief, Police General Debold M Sinas, has expressed his condolences and support to the bereaved family of the slain policeman, PCpl Dexter Rey Teves, member of Caloocan City Police Station, who, together with another cop who sustained gunshot injuries, had figured in an armed encounter with two illegal drug suspects.
Investigation disclosed that PCpl Teves and PCpl Rex Abraham Abigan, while conducting “Oplan Sita” near Sub-Station 7 of Caloocan Police Station, flagged down the two motorycle riding suspects for not wearing helmet. When asked for papers of their motorcycle, one of the suspects, identified as Mark Gil “Macoy” Toreda, drew gun and openly shot the two lawmen, hitting PCpl Teves and PCpl Abigan who managed to wrestle with Macoy and tried to grab the gun from the suspect but was, unfortunately, shot on his right foot.
Upon hearing of the gunfire, duty police officer PSSg Christopher Anos immediately responded to the scene and engaged in a shootout with Macoy that caused the latter’s instantaneous death. Meanwhile, the other suspect Clark Castillo, a resident of Bagong Silang, Caloocan City, tried to run away from the police but was captured by bystanders.
PCpl Teves and PCpl Abigan were rushed to Novaliches General Hospital, butTeves was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
General Sinas has assured the family of PCpl Teves of the full financial support from the PNP. He also extended appropriate financial assistance to wounded cop, PCpl Abigan. Teves was also confered with posthumous medal for his bravery that cost his life, as well as wounded medal for Abigan.
Recovered from the suspects’ possession were one (1) piece cal. 9mm pistol, one (1) piece MK2 fragmentation hand grenade, six (6) pieces of heat-sealed plastic containing suspected Methampethamine HCl, or “shabu”, and cash amounting to P3,500.00.
