DSWD assures more cash for work opportunities for Boracay residents

MANILA — Displaced Boracay workers can take advantage of the cash for work (CFW) programs made available by both the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

“Those who were able to work in the CFW of DOLE and had finished them can also work in the CFW of DSWD,” said DSWD Undersecretary Malou Turalde in an interview on Thursday.

Turalde said that a total of PHP77 million was allocated by the agency for the implementation of CFW. Under the program, a worker will receive PHP323.50 in daily wage.

The work that they will render include digging, dredging, de-silting of canals and drainages, planting of trees, reforestation, clearing pathways, shelter/facilities repair, demolition of illegal structure, clearing of debris, garbage collecting, installing of support facilities, and hauling of food and non-food items.

“They may also be hired to do also technical or office work such as enumeration/profiling activities, monitoring and report writing, camp management, and other disaster operations management center function,” she added.

Interested displaced workers who want to participate may inquire at the DSWD operations center.

Turalde assured that they will continue to provide assistance to workers and residents of Boracay affected by the closure as part of their commitment to provide support among the vulnerable sectors of society. (Leilani Junio/PNA)
