4 seriously hurt in separate highway accidents in Benguet

BAGUIO CITY — Four persons were injured in two separate highway accidents in Tuba, Benguet late afternoon on Thursday (May 24), involving three trucks and a motorcycle, the police reported.

Chief Inspector James Acod, Tuba municipal police chief, said in a phone interview that the first incident happened at 4:18 p.m. in Sitio Camp 5, Barangay Camp 4, Kennon road.

Acod said the motorcycle carrying two passengers and the driver heading towards the direction of the lowland encroached on the other side of the lane where the elf truck was negotiating.

Acod said the accident site was a descending, semi-blind curve portion of the road, which prevented the driver of the truck to avoid the motorcycle.

He identified the injured motorcycle riders as Francis Tibab, 21, and Jun Tiway, 22, both natives of Lipay, San Gabriel, La Union and Liwan Dindo, 19, of Amontoc, San Gabriel, La Union.

All victims, who suffered serious physical injuries were taken to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center.

Acod said as of 7 p.m., they are still under observation and undergoing laboratory tests.

The police officer identified the truck driver as Johnny Ngale Togatog, 37, resident of Pico, La Trinidad, Benguet. He was brought to the police station for the filing of appropriate charges.

At around 4:55 p.m., another vehicular accident happened on Marcos highway at Bontiwey, Poblacion Tuba, Benguet involving an Isuzu truck, registered to SSI Storage Solutions driven by Manny Gapay Auditor, 36 and resident of Quezon City, and a 10-wheeler truck registered to Axle Freight services driven by Jines Dabajo, 26, resident of San Fernando City, La Union.

Investigation showed that the first truck was parked at the shoulder of the road facing the direction going to Baguio City when the 10-wheeler truck that was fast descending the slippery road was unable to control the vehicle and encroached on the other lane, bumping the parked truck.

Injured during the incident was the driver of the 10 wheeler truck, Archie Jines Dabajo, who sustained a minor injury on his left knee. (Dionisio Dennis, Jr./PNA)
