DSWD launches ‘Oplan Pag-Abot’

By Trisha Casabar

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) launched on Friday, June 30, a new project called “Oplan Pag-Abot,” which aims to reach out marginalized sectors and mitigate the risks and vulnerabilities they face.

“Oplan Pag-Abot” seeks to bring hope and improve the lives of children, families, and individuals who are living in the street.

DSWD introduced this initiative through the story of “a father’s journey to stability with Oplan Pag-Abot.”

Alvin Baguio, 48, is among those who have been reached out by the project.

Baguio is a solo parent who built a makeshift house on a vacant lot along Seaside Diokno in Macapagal Avenue, Pasay.

He was able to participate in the Balik Probinsya Bagong Pag-asa program, one of the interventions offered under the Pag-Abot project.

His family received assistance packages, including the Transitory Family Support Package worth P28,700.

With the help of the project’s assistance, Baguio’s family now resides in an apartment in Cebu and works as a pedicab driver with a daily income of P200. – gb
