DSWD monitors families affected by ‘Maring’

QUEZON CITY, Sept. 15 — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through its Field Offices (FO) in Region III, National Capital Region (NCR), and CALABARZON, is continuously monitoring the status of families affected by Tropical Storm ‘Maring,’ which caused heavy rain resulting to severe flashflood and landslides in some areas.

According to the 5am report on Wednesday (September 13) of the DSWD Disaster Response Assistance and Management Bureau (DReAMB), the tropical depression has affected a total of 2,103 families or 8,793 individuals in 109 barangays in Region III, NCR, and CALABARZON.

Some 1,857 families or 7,549 persons are currently staying in 116 evacuation centers, most of which are in the provinces of Laguna and Quezon.

The Department’s field offices in the regions are coordinating closely with the local government units (LGUs) of the affected cities and municipalities and are monitoring the families staying in the evacuation centers.

The Quick Response Team of DSWD FO III delivered 500 Family Food Packs (FFPs) for stockpile of the Deputy Program for Executive Office (DPEO) in Nueva Ecija. The Field Office also prepositioned goods to other five provincial offices, including Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Tarlac, and Zambales.

On the other hand, FO NCR and CALABARZON reported that the LGUs in their respective regions have not requested augmentation assistance from the field offices yet.

The DSWD Central Office, concerned FOs, and the National Resource Operations Center (NROC) have a total stockpiles and standby funds amounting to P836,623,830.73.

The Department maintains 196,896 FFPs amounting to P72,623,951.49 and has available Food and Non-Food Items (FNIs) amounting to P186,227,538.30, ready to be augmented to concerned LGUs when needed.

The DSWD also has a total of P577,772,340.94 standby funds in the CO and its field offices. (DSWD)
