DTI, Go Negosyo launch 2nd Kapatid Mentor Me program in Bulacan

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — At least 20 micro-entrepreneurs in this province will learn new concepts and strategies that can help improve their products.

This, as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), in partnership with the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship or Go-Negosyo, launched on Wednesday the second round of “Kapatid Mentor Me” also known as “Go Na Tayo, Negosyo Na Tayo” program at the Malolos Resort Club Royale here.

DTI-Region 3 Director Judith Angeles said the 20 micro-entrepreneurs would undergo a 10-week seminar designed to scale up their businesses.

“They will be trained for 10 weeks on how to improve their products and marketing styles. The DTI and Go Negosyo have tapped experts to provide the second batch of 20 micro-entrepreneurs with free training on business mindset and marketing,” Angeles said.

It was learned that in last year’s Mentor Me Program, 25 mentees mostly engaged in the food business completed the seminar-training.

Assistant Secretary Blesila Lantayona of the DTI-Regional Operations Group encouraged the new batch of mentees to complete the modules to be competitive.

She said the program aims to advocate change in the mindset and attitude of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Central Luzon.

It was also learned that Bulacan and Pampanga have the most number of SMEs in Central Luzon.

DTI Provincial Director Zorina D. Aldana said that under the Kapatid Mentor Me program, the SMEs would be trained once a month that would help them to be more inspired and motivated in improving their business venture.

Citing the SMEs as among the important sectors of the economy, Aldana said there is a need for micro-entrepreneurs to know the process of government support to improve their business ventures.

“This is a good example of the partnership between government and the private sector by igniting the entrepreneurship revolution,” she said.

Among the resource speakers for Module 1 and 2 were Jorge Noel Y. Wieneke III, CEO of Tokyo Tempura and a Go-Negosyo “Angelpreneur”, and Jennifer Wieneke, a board of trustee/ program director and Kalye Negosyo mentor.

The mentees have 10 modules to study within the 10-week program. These include entrepreneurial mind-setting and values formation; marketing; business model canvass; support from other institutions; product development/assessment and innovation; operations management; supply and value chain; human resource and organization management; entrepreneurial accounting and financial management; taxation; and business law. (Manny Balbin/PNA)
