President Rodrigo Duterte led the inauguration of the new Binondo-Intramuros Bridge that links the urban district of Intramuros to the Chinatown of Manila on Tuesday (April 5).

In his speech, Duterte commended the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and its partners for successfully completing one of the key projects of his government’s Build, Build, Build program.

“As my administration comes to a close, we remain committed to providing a comfortable life for every Filipino through various opportunities for growth and success,” he said.

“It is our hope that [the] present and future generations will enjoy [the] enhanced mobility and connectivity through innovative physical integration,” he added.

He also thanked China for being a partner in enhancing key infrastructure projects in the country, and told Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian that the Philippines and China have no quarrel.

“The Philippines and China, we do not have any quarrel. We can talk about the Spratly Islands and probably the fishing rights of our countrymen, and may not talk nothing else,” he said.

The President hopes that the project can inspire people and continue with their lives under the new normal.

According to the DPWH, the bridge can accommodate approximately 30,000 motorists each day.

“The new bridge is a two-way, four lane bridge over the Pasig River, Connecting Solana Street and Riverside Drive in Intramuros to Muelle dela Industria and Plaza del Conde Street in Binondo. The exit ramp to Plaza del Conde Street will open in mid-April,” the DPWH said. – ag
