Duterte names remaining Comelec commissioner

MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte has filled up the remaining slot to complete the seven-man Commission on Elections (Comelec) less than a year before the 2019 midterm elections.

In a message sent to Malacanang reporters on Friday, Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go said the Chief Executive has appointed Department of Justice (DOJ) Undersecretary Antonio Kho Jr. as Comelec commissioner.

Kho will take the post vacated by Sheriff Abas who was appointed as Comelec chairman.

Abas replaced former poll chief Andres Bautista who resigned amid allegations by his wife, Patricia, that he had amassed ill-gotten wealth amounting to nearly Php1 billion.

Both Abas and Kho will serve the commission until February 2022.

Kho is the fourth appointee of the President in the Comelec. Others include Commissioners Socorro Inting, Marlon Casquejo and Abas.

Other commissioners of the Comelec are Al Parreno, Luie Tito Guia and Rowena Amelia. (Jelly Musico/PNA)
