MANILA — Philadelphia’s long wait for an NFL title is over.

The Eagles won their first championship in the Super Bowl era — and their first since 1960 — with a 41-33 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 52 at the US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Monday (Philippine Time).

In a record-setting high-scoring game that even saw Philadelphia quarterback Nick Foles, whose role is to throw passes, catching a touchdown pass off a fourth down trick play just before halftime, key defensive stops down the stretch helped the team end a 58-year drought for an NFL silverware.

Chris Long stripped the ball from Tom Brady while the latter tried to go for a pass, and Derek Barnett completed the interception to make the game’s only sack more fruitful for the Eagles, who were up that time, 38-33, with 2:09 left.

Jake Elliott converted the huge defensive gem into a field goal that upped the lead to eight with 1:05 to go.

The Patriots still provided a scare as Brady found Rob Gronkowski at the end zone and threw a long pass, but the Eagles’ tight defense forced Gronkowski to fumble the pass as time expired.

Foles, who was moved to the starting lineup following the ACL injury of Carson Wentz, was named Most Valuable Player of the game. (Ivan Stewart Saldajeno/PNA)
