EDC restoring power plants in Leyte

MANILA — Listed geothermal leader Energy Development Corp. (EDC) said Tuesday it is working to restore power plants in Leyte which had been affected by landslides and flooding brought about by typhoon Urduja.

“We are working to restore the facilities at the soonest time possible, with priority consideration on safety. Moreover, we are extending assistance to our host communities,” EDC told the local bourse.

As of the evening of Dec. 18, the EDC said the Leyte power plants were producing an aggregate of 246 megawatts (MW), more than half compared to 462 MW before the typhoon hit.

The operations of its Leyte geothermal power plants were damaged by typhoon Urduja, it said.

EDC further said initial assessment indicated that most of the damage were not to the power plants but to pipelines and the marshalling station. (PNA)
