Eleazar slams NPA’s ‘senseless attack’ in Surigao Del Sur construction site

By Christine Fabro

The Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police Gen. Guillermo Eleazar called on the local police forces in the CARAGA region to intensify its legal offensive actions against members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA).

The statement comes after the CPP-NPA’s attack on a construction site in Surigao Del Sur on June 24 which resulted in death of a worker and wounding two others.

According to the police chief, at least 20 terrorists attacked the MR1 Construction site in Purok 2, Barangay Zone 2, in Lanuza Municipality.

The members of the CPP/NPA North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee-Guerrilla Front 30 killed site caretaker Eldrin Daraman and wounded two other construction workers, Eleazar reported.

“I strongly condemn this senseless attack perpetrated by CPP/NPA rebels. Wala talagang alam ang mga rebeldeng ito kung hindi ang magdulot ng gulo, karahasan at kamatayan sa ating mga komunidad,” Eleazar said.

“Hindi talaga dapat pagkatiwalaan ang mga rebeldeng komunista dahil sinalakay nila ang construction site, kung saan mga trabahador lamang ang mga biktima, dahil tumanggi ang kumpanya sa kanilang tangkang pangingikil,” he added.

According to the PNP, the police and the military have launched joint pursuit operations against the communist rebels and Eleazar tasked PNP units in the province to heighten security measures. – rir
