Electric companies may be fined if installment payment for bills is disregarded

The ERC has warned that electric companies will be fined if they fail to implement an installment payment of electric bills under the enhanced community quarantine.

According to ERC Chairperson Agnes Devanadera, electric companies that will not abide by the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte to aid the Filipinos in time of crisis will be penalized.

The ERC has ordered Meralco last week to release a new billing statement indicating the installment payment.

Consumers who use more than 201 kilowatt hours may pay for 4 months while consumers who use below 200 kilowatt hours may pay for 6 months.

The bill covers the consumption from March 16 until May 31.

For other private electric companies, the installment payment period is 4 months from July to September 2020.
