LAOAG CITY—Classes in the elementary level in Ilocos Norte has been suspended Monday, August 13, as the southwest monsoon or habagat continues to bring heavy downpour here.

Ilocos Norte Governor Ma. Imelda Josefa “Imee” Marcos made the announcement on Sunday evening as she urged residents to stay alert and take extra precaution with the inclement weather.

“The municipalities of Bangui, Adams and Pagudpud may cancel higher school levels and work due to peding electrical outages,” Marcos said in an advisory.

In Piddig town, Mayor Georgina Guillen has likewise suspended classes today both in the elementary and secondary levels.

As part of the disaster preparedness, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council told local government units here to stay alert due to bad weather.

As of 6:00 a.m. today, the weather bureau warned that flooding and landslides are likely to occur in this part of Luzon due to moderate to occasional heavy rains.

Coastal waters in Luzon may continue to be rough and fishermen were already warned against sailing. (Leilanie Adriano/PNA)
