Ex-Sen. Jinggoy Estrada faces no charges after arrest for violation of ECQ guidelines

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will not file charges against former Senator Jinggoy Estrada after arresting him for violating the enhanced community quarantine protocols.

The ex-lawmaker was arrested Sunday for the lack of social distancing and permit from the Local Government Unit (LGU) when he distributed relief packs to San Juan residents.

According to PNP Spokesperson PBGen. Bernard Banac, the PNP only gave the former legislator a stern warning to coordinate with the LGU if he wishes to distribute relief goods and to strictly follow the ECQ guidelines.

PBGen. Banac added that residents have not been arrested after accepting the relief packs from Estrada.

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora stated that there is no politics involved in the arrest of Estrada. Aside from the fact that the relief distribution had no coordination with the LGU, Estrada is also not considered an authorized person outside of residence.

“In such a time as this, politics must take a backseat for all of us. Our only focus should be to flatten the curve and not lose our gains from the ECQ which has entailed a lot of sacrifices from everyone.”
