Exhibit features dev’t of Bacolod’s radio industry

BACOLOD CITY — A week-long exhibit to mark World Radio Day is being held at SM City Bacolod, featuring the history and development of the radio industry here.

The 4th World Radio Day celebration, themed “Bacolod City @ 80: Celebrating the Power of Radio”, began Monday with a motorcade participated in by 18 AM and FM radio stations.

Danny Dangcalan, acting head of the City Public Information Office, and overall chairman of the event, said the theme highlights the indispensable role of radio in the development of Bacolod through the years as the city marks its 80th year this 2018.

The World Radio Day celebration here began in 2015 as provided in City Ordinance 08-14-792, Series of 2014, authored by former councilor Alex Paglumotan.

It is being celebrated worldwide every 13th of February, but since Negros Island was placed under Public Storm Signal No. 1 due to Tropical Depression Basyang last week, the schedule was moved this week.

The exhibit at the mall’s Northwest Bridgeway Lobby will run until Saturday.

Other activities include the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas-Negros Occidental Chapter’s “Tingog kag Handurawan” Awards Night at the SMX Convention Center at 6:30 p.m.
