FDA reminds public that rubbing alcohol is flammable

A social media post has gone viral after a bottle of alcohol has exploded inside a car. The explosion shattered the passenger’s window and damaged the seat and roof.

The vicitm explained that the vehicle was parked under the heat of the sun and there was no shade. This might have caused the alcohol to explode.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reminded the public that rubbing alcohol is flammable. It may explode or burst into flames especially if exposed to hot objects or if placed in enclosed areas with high temperature.

According to the agency, majority of disinfectants against the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) contain high alcohol content ranging from 60% to 70%. Consumers are advised to read the label to know the contents and proper handling of alcohol.
