A Filipino lawyer was hurt after being shot on Sunday, June 19, in a random shooting incident in Philadelphia, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.

Consul General Elmer Cato said lawyer John Albert Laylo, accompanied by his mother, was shot inside an Uber going to the airport.

Laylo was immediately rushed to a hospital after a bullet hit his head. He is currently on life support.

“Victim was on way to airport with mother to catch flight to Chicago when Uber vehicle they were riding in was fired upon at around 4 a.m. Victim struck in the head by one of six bullets fired by suspect who remains at large,” Cato said.

Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Boy Locsin Jr. said they have already communicated with the mother of the victim and instructed DFA Undersecretary Sarah Lou Arriola to accompany her going home. – gb
