ILOILO CITY — A fire that broke out early Friday in Barangay Sooc, Arevalo district, this city killed two persons and wounded two others, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) here said.

The fire also totally burned two houses and partially damaged two others. Initial estimates of losses were put at PHP200,000.

The fatalities were identified as 64-year-old Elnora Lariosa and her daughter Alyssa, 24. Those who suffered injuries were Lariosa’s son Jude Christian, 18, and her granddaughter Trixie, 15.

Senior Fire Officer 1 Rolen Hormena said they received the fire call at about 12:11 a.m. and placed it under control at 1:19 a.m.

The fire started at the house of Lariosa on Block 1, Project 3 and spread to three nearby houses. The BFP is still investigating the cause of the blaze.

“Based on the point of origin that we have identified, the fire started at the ceiling area of the ground floor, which is located at the living area and kitchen area,” Hormena said.

The fatalities were found inside the comfort room of the two-storey semi-concrete house.

The injured Lariosas, who survived by jumping off the second floor, were rescued by relatives and brought to the Western Visayas Medical Center.

Meanwhile, the BFP firefighters said they found it difficult to get to the fire because both sides of the road were used as parking areas by residents and dangling wires obstructed their path.

The fire incident occurred amid southwest monsoon rains affecting this part of the country. (Perla Lena/PNA)
