Firearms seized in Maguindanao

CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao — Government troops on Thursday seized high-powered firearms during clearing operations in Datu Piang, Maguindanao.

A report from this camp said the firearms were recovered from the house of Tato Silongan, a suspected member of a local private armed group, in Barangay Buayan, Datu Piang.

But the suspect managed to elude arrest long before the operation conducted by elements of the Army’s 2nd Mechaized Battalion in the area.

Acting on a tip, the soldiers found in Silongan’s house an M14 rifle, a .45 caliber pistol, and assorted ammuntion.

Maj. Gen. Arnel dela Vega, Army’s 6th Infantry Division commander, said the operation was a result of sustained military operation against local threat groups and loose firearms in Central Mindanao,
