First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, representing President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., led the distribution of relief packs to families affected by heavy monsoon rains in Manila.
The First Lady personally handed out “ChariTimba” food packs under a bridge near Malacañang in Legarda, Manila on Tuesday.
In a video shared on social media Wednesday, she can be heard saying, “Galing sa asawa ko ’to,” as she handed food packs to the residents.
On Facebook, she wrote: “Sabi kasi ng ‘bossing’ ko: ‘Wish I was there to help our kababayans.’”
The President has wrapped up his three-day official visit to the United States (U.S.) and is now travelling back to Manila.
Malacañang said President Marcos has been closely monitoring the situation in the country and handing out directives to concerned government agencies.
With the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), the First Lady distributed a total of 350 ChariTimba packs. She was joined by PCSO General Manager Mel Robles and Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief PGEN. Nicolas Torre III.
Separately, 650 packs were also distributed in Barangay Sta. Lucia by PCSO Chief of Staff Jeremy Regino to evacuees temporarily sheltered due to flooding.
The effort is in line with President Marcos’ directive to prioritize immediate aid to disaster-hit communities, and forms part of the PCSO’s corporate social responsibility program.
The enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat) continues to inundate the majority of Luzon and parts of Visayas, triggering massive flooding and class suspensions. (PNA)
