Former Panay NPA front leader nabbed in Laguna

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna — Combined police intelligence agents of Laguna and Antique arrested on Sunday night a former team leader of the Panay Regional Party Committee under the Southern Front Committee of the New People’s Army in Mabacan, Calauan town in this province.

Police Senior Inspector Gerry Sangalang, provincial information officer, disclosed that elements of Antique Provincial Intelligence Branch and San Remigio, Antique Municipal Station coordinated with the Laguna Police Provincial Office and the Calauan Municipal Police Station for the service of the arrest warrant.

Sangalang identified the arrested fugitive as Winston Cabaya Gilua, 49, who sported the aliases ‘Nonoy’ and ‘Ka Waway’ and worked as a laborer in Barangay Mabacan in Calauan town after eluding arrest for more than 13 years.

Presiding Judge Nery G. Duremdes of the Regional Trial Court Branch 11 in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique issued the warrant of arrest on Sept. 28, 2004 for murder under Criminal Case No. 6958 with no bail recommended. (Zen Trinidad/PNA)
