FVR to grace launch of new book on 33rd Edsa anniversary

MANILA – A new book, “Silver Linings: The Continuing Saga of the 1986 Edsa People Power Revolution”, will be launched on Friday on the 33rd anniversary of the historic peaceful revolt with former president Fidel V. Ramos as the guest of honor and speaker.

The book launching will be held at the Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan City.

Authored by Melandrew T. Velasco, together with former local government secretary Rafael Alunan and retired police general Reynaldo V. Velasco, the 1st commander of the Special Action Force of the Philippine National Police (PNP), the book follows through where the first edition ended in May 2012 under former president Benigno S. Aquino III and until the first three years of the administration of President Rodrigo R. Duterte.

The book also cites the heroism, bravery and dedication of the SAF “Tagaligtas” troopers, as well as the founders who made this historical book possible.

“This updated edition of Silver Linings seeks to instill in the Filipinos that as we go about our daily tasks, we must do our best in whatever we think, say and do; that our greatest duty is to rise to life’s challenges as responsible citizens; and that we must strive always to see justice done, the rule of law upheld, civic responsibility performed, and national teamwork enhanced,” said Ramos, who, along with then-defense minister Juan Ponce Enrile, led the historic peaceful revolution that toppled the 20 regime of then president Ferdinand E. Marcos.

“It has been 33 years after the peaceful revolt of the masses, the first of its kind that was to be emulated by many countries thereafter. However, truth to tell, we are still a long way to go before the dreams and aspirations and hopes of Edsa 1 and Edsa 2 are achieved for the betterment of our beloved Philippines and fellow Filipinos,” said Velasco, who has written some 32 books to date.

The book is also supported by PNP chief, Police Director General Oscar Albayalde, former PNP Director Ramon O. Purugganan; the PNP Special Action Force; and Chief Supt. Edward Carranza, director of the PNP Region 4.
