Around 2.2 million additional Pfizer vaccine doses are expected to arrive in the Philippines before May ends.
In President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s Talk to the People address on Thursday (May 13), National Task Force Chief Implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. announced that the country will be receiving 2.2 million Pfizer vaccine doses from the Covax facility of the World Health Organization (WHO).
“So iyong mangyayari po, iyong Pfizer, makukuha po natin iyong 2.2 million this May sa Covax po. Kaya tuwang-tuwa po tayo dahil kasi nadagdagan po tayo ng 1.2 ngayong month.”
Galvez said one million doses were added to the original 1.2 million donated doses, bringing the total to 2.2 million.
He added that almost two million AstraZeneca vaccine doses will arrive in June.
“And then sa coming June, mayroon po tayong darating na almost two million po na AstraZeneca. Ito po ‘yong pang-second dose doon sa nauna po na two million ng COVAX.”
Galvez said the number of COVID-19 vaccines that will have been received in May will total seven million.
