Gas explosion in Malate leaves 16 injured

A gas explosion in a laundry shop near a university in Malate, Manila left 16 individuals hurt, according to the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO).

MDRRMO said the fire broke out at past 7:00 p.m. at a laundry shop in Fidel Reyes St.

Fire out was declared at 7:34 p.m.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection, a gas leak was the cause of the explosion.

In a statement, the De La Salle University (DLSU) said its property sustained no damages following the explosion and the fire.

“While the incident did not reach campus premises, some students in the vicinity received minor injuries. They were immediately given first aid and medical attention,” DLSU said.

Meanwhile, the DLSU said they are also conducting psychological first-aid to students who were affected by the gas leak.

It also advised the public against sharing posts or videos that are unverified and may be distressing to the victims and the public. –ag
