Gatchalian disagrees with face-to-face classes

Education committee chairman Senator Win Gatchalian has opposed the Department of Education’s (DepEd) proposal on limited face-to-face classes.

In his statement to the media, Gatchalian indicated that the DepEd is not yet ready for the opening of classes on August 24 especially if it will include limited face-to-face classes. He asserted that the DepEd should just push through with the distance learning modality to protect learners, parents, and teachers from COVID-19.

“Once na nag-face-to-face, lalabas talaga ang mga parents, lalabas rin ang mga teachers, at maraming activity in their locality (Once there are face-to-face [classes], parents and teachers will really have to go out and there will be lots of activities in their locality),” Gatchalian said.

“Even itong mga governors na may zero cases ayaw rin nila, and I agree with them because once we increase movements of people, we definitely increase risk and delikado ‘yan (Governors with zero cases [within their provinces] also do not want it, and I agree with them because once we increase movements of people, we definitely increase the risk and that is dangerous),” he added.
