General Santos City imposes border lockdown

General Santos City has closed its borders to Sarangani province and South Cotabato. Public transportation has been suspended starting last midnight particularly those entering and leaving the city, and those heading to Sarangani province, South Cotabato, and Davao Region.

City Mayor Ronnel Rivera has issued an executive order on the matter. Non-essential travels have been temporarily prohibited. Barangay clustering has been re-implemented and a market day for each cluster has been scheduled to limit movements of residents.

The citywide lockdown General Santos will take place until midnight of September 13. The city government has earlier implemented a temporary halt in operations of the GenSan International Airport to give a break to medical frontliners assigned to welcome passengers. It is now focusing on the monitoring of some barangays with increasing number of COVID-19 cases due to local transmission of the virus.

In relation with this, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines has reached 209,544 with 134,474 recoveries and 3,325 fatalities as of August 28, 2020.
