GENERAL TRIAS CITY, Cavite – The city’s Commission on Election (COMELEC) officer has reminded new voter registrants to avoid the “mad” rush and last-minute registration as they only have 26 days until Sept. 29 to register with the poll office.

City election officer Atty. Armando Vencilao said the registration period by the poll body started July 2 until Sept. 26 for new voters, who could participate in the May 13, 2019 midterm and local elections.

Vencilao said that pursuant to COMELEC Resolution No. 10392, their office is accepting applications for registration and other voter-related registration for the May 13, 2019 elections – Mondays through Saturdays during office hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. including holidays. The nationwide registration will run until Sept. 29.

He said Councilor Jowie Carampot is also helped in the local poll body’s registration to avoid congestion and longer queue by setting up satellite registration desk on Thursday, Sept. 6 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the San Jose Town Homes in Barangay Pasong Camachile 2.

The COMELEC has urged any Filipino citizen who is not yet a registered voter to apply for registration, provided he/she possesses the following qualifications: at least 18 years of age on or before May 13, 2019 for purposes of National and Local Election; a resident of the Philippines for at least one (1) year and in the place wherein he/she proposes to vote for at least six months immediately preceding the election.

Registrants are required to bring identification cards like employee’s identification card (ID) with the signature of the employer or authorized representative; Postal ID, PWD Discount ID, Student’s ID or library card signed by the school authority, Senior Citizen’s ID, Driver’s License, NBI Clearance, Passport, GSIS or SSS ID, Integrated Bar of the Philippine (IBP) ID and License issued by the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC).

Cavite 6th District Representative Luis ‘Jon Jon’ Ferrer IV also encourages the youths to register in their respective Comelec centers and exercise their right to select the rightful leaders of their town and cities and country.

“Alam ko matatalino na ang mga botante ngayon (I know that our voters are wise now),” Rep. Ferrer said.

The filing of the certificates of candidacy will start seven months before the election slated on May 13, 2019. (Dennis Abrina/PNA)
