Gierran not OK with PhilHealth privatization

The issues concerning the alleged corruption within the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has been taken up again at the Lower House.

During the hearing of Congressional Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability, and Committee on Public Accounts, PhilHealth President Dante Gierran expressed opposition to the privatization of the embattled state health insurer due to incessant corruption.

He explained that such move could imply that people in government cannot handle the situation while those in the private sector can.

Meanwhile, solons are eyeing to investigate the possible involvement of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III in the PhilHealth mess.

Congressman Boying Remulla said the excuses of Duque that he has no accountability on the matter is not a statement of a responsible Chairman of the Board. – Report from Daniel Manalastas
