Gilas secures 5th place in Asiad with rout of Syria

MANILA — Jordan Clarkson saved his best for last.

Clarkson sparked Gilas’ opening salvo that eventually led to a 109-55 rout of Syria in their fifth place battle in the Asian Games men’s basketball tournament at the GBK Basketball Hall in Jakarta on Friday night.

Clarkson made 29 points in just 25 minutes as Gilas opened a 38-16 advantage over Syria in the first quarter and never looked back.

Clarkson also had four rebounds, six assists, one steal, and one block.

Chris Standhardinger added 27 points and 15 rebounds for Gilas, which will now look forward to the fourth window of the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers in mid-September.

In his comeback game, James Yap came close to a double-double, making 11 rebounds and nine points.
