Go, Tankoua named Pivotal Players of the Year

MANILA — Ateneo’s Isaac Go and San Beda’s Donald Tankoua are set to be named the Pivotal Players of the Year by the UAAP-NCAA Press Corps.

The said distinction will be formalized on Thursday night during the 2018 Chooks-to-Go Collegiate Basketball Awards at The Bayleaf Hotel.

The Pivotal Player awards are given to players, who led their respective teams to the championship in their mother leagues.

While Thirdy Ravena was named the Finals MVP for the Blue Eagles in last year’s UAAP men’s basketball championship, it was actually Go who made the shots that mattered as they got back to the top of the league after five years.

On the other hand, Tankoua made a successful return from a knee injury to lead the Red Lions to their second straight NCAA title, downing the erstwhile unbeaten Lyceum Pirates squad via a 2-0 sweep of the best-of-three finals. Tankoua was named the Finals MVP.

Also to be given out are the Breakout Player of the Year, Mythical Five, and the Chooks-to-Go Player of the Year plums. (Ivan Stewart Saldajeno/PNA)
