MANILA, July 28 — Stormy weather will be experienced over Northern Luzon’s Batanes province, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 24-hour forecast released Friday afternoon.
Rains with gusty winds will prevail over Babuyan Islands also in Northern Luzon, PAGASA also said.
According to PAGASA, severe tropical storm ‘Gorio’ (international name ‘Nesat’) intensified into a typhoon this Friday.
PAGASA located ‘Gorio’ at 475 km northeast of Cagayan province’s Tuguegarao City and 320 km east of Batanes’ capital Basco as of 3 p.m. Friday.
‘Gorio’ then packed maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near its center and gustiness of up to 145 kph, said PAGASA.
PAGASA forecast ‘Gorio’ to move northwestwards at 15 kph.
Monsoon rains – which may trigger flash floods and landslides – are expected over Metro Manila and Ilocos, Cordillera, Central Luzon, Calabarzon and Mimaropa regions, PAGASA continued.
Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms will be experienced over rest of Luzon, PAGASA noted.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will prevail over rest of the country, PAGASA said further.
Southwest monsoon or ‘habagat’ is affecting Luzon, said PAGASA.
According to PAGASA, moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over Luzon where coastal waters will be moderate to rough.
“Elsewhere, winds will be moderate to occasionally strong coming from the southwest with moderate to occasionally rough seas,” PAGASA added. (Catherine J. Teves/PNA)
