Grade 1 pupil missing in Danao, Cebu

CEBU CITY — A seven-year-old girl was reported missing in Danao City since Tuesday after classes were suspended due to heavy rains brought by the tail-end of the cold front.

Rhee Telen Jr. of the Information Management Section of the Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), on Wednesday identified the missing girl as Danilyn Matugas, Grade 1 pupil of Langosing Elementary School in Danao.

Telen said Matugas needed to cross a river to get home but failed to return after classes were suspended in the afternoon.

Search and rescue operation is ongoing for the missing girl.

The PDRRMO also reported flooding in some parts of the province.

In Tuburan town, the flood started around 3 p.m. Tuesday, forcing the evacuation of some 300 people or 60 families. The National Highway was also flooded, stranding travellers and vehicles. The flood reportedly subsided past 9 p.m.

Floodings were also reported in Toledo City and the towns of Asturias, Compostela, and Minglanilla. A house was reportedly washed out in Asturias as well as in Minglanilla.

A landslide was likewise reported along the municipal road of Barangay Damolog in Sogod town.

The PDRRMO has coordinated with the Department of Public Works and Highways for the clearing operation.

Telen said the PDRRMO is continuously monitoring all local government units in the province, especially those municipalities with evacuees. (PNA)
