Road safety advocates, along with the Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of Education (DepEd), called on Filipino motorists to practice safe driving to prevent road accidents involving children.

At the Pista ng Kalusugan event on Sunday, April 16, at the Quezon Memorial Circle, public interest law group ImagineLaw urged motorists to obey traffic rules and road safety policies, share the road, and stop for children.

“We need to learn how to build a community and a road system that [protects] vulnerable road users, especially children,” ImagineLaw Project Manager for Road Safety Daphne Marcelo said.

“We need to work together in building a set of solutions to end this epidemic: safer driving behavior, better infrastructure for pedestrians, commuters, and drivers, and strict and sensible enforcement of traffic rules,” Marcelo added.

DepEd Assistant Secretary Dr. Dex Galban and DOH Health Promotion Bureau Chief Rodley Carza also joined the call. – gb
