GSIS adds P500,000 to life insurance of health workers

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) confirmed it has increased by Php 500,000 the life insurance pay-off for medical frontline members battling COVID-19.

GSIS President and General Manager Rolando Macasaet said in a virtual meeting at the Lower House that the Php 300,000 to Php 500,000 insurance will increase to Php 800,000 to Php 1 million, depending on the salary of the front-liners. It will be effective from March 1 to December 2020.

GSIS said the insurance will not only be for COVID-19 deaths, but also for other accidents.

Meanwhile, a Php 370 billion stimulus package is also being pushed at the Lower House to respond to the economic effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The package covers wage subsidies, loans, grants, and compensation for the paid sick leave of COVID-19 patients. – Report from Daniel Manalastas
