HPG, MMDA inspect EDSA; find motorists without essential travel purpose

Authorities admit the number of vehicles in thoroughfares like EDSA has increased amid the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine.

The Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) found out on Wednesday that a lot of motorists in EDSA are on non-essential trips or joy drives.

PNP-HPG and MMDA advised only frontline workers are allowed to go outside. They added that individuals who buy food and medicines are allowed only within their area in accordance with their schedules and must bring quarantine passes and IDs.

The PNP-HPG has issued tickets to violators and confiscated their licenses.

Authorities have expressed worry that motorists might continue to violate the law.

“If you will just continue with this, na ganyan attitude ng mga tao, baka hindi na nga matapos itong ECQ na to (if people keep going on with this attitude, the ECQ might not be finished),” Bong Nebrija said. – Report from Allan Francisco
