GSIS grants Php10,000 educational subsidy to kin of low-income gov’t employees in Zambo peninsula

Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) President and General Manager Rolando Ledesma Macasaet today announced that a total of 200 children of low-income government employees in the Zamboanga peninsula stand to benefit from the annual Php10,000 educational subsidy program of the pension fund.

Of the 200 grantees from the region, 50 are from Zamboanga City, 46 from Zamboanga del Norte, 33 from Zamboanga del Sur, 29 from Zamboanga Sibugay, 15 each from Dipolog and Pagadian cities, and 12 from Dapitan City. The grantees were screened from 5,027 nominees nationwide.

Under the GSIS Educational Subsidy Program (GESP), the grantees will receive a Php10,000 yearly subsidy allowance until they finish their college course subject to the approved guidelines.

The subsidy allowance will be deposited to the bank account of the grantees at the Land Bank of the Philippines. A letter of introduction will be given to the recipients as endorsement to open an account with LANDBANK.

“GESP is our response to President Duterte’s call to provide wider access to quality college education to the marginalized sector. It also complements Republic Act No. 10931 or the 2017 Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education which provides free tuition and miscellaneous fees,” Macasaet added.

“We realize that the COVID pandemic has brought economic hardship to many families across the country, including those from the Zamboanga Peninsula. That is why we came up with this educational subsidy program in order to alleviate their hardship and bring ginhawa to them,” the pension fund chief said.

Overall, the Mindanao region has the largest number of beneficiaries under the program with  1,192 grantees, followed by North Luzon with 1,146 grantees, South Luzon with1,098 grantees,  Visayas with  906 grantees, and NCR with 685 grantees.

The list of GESP recipients is published at the GSIS website – www.gsis.gov.ph. For inquiries on the program, members may call Mgr. Raymundo Andres V. Palad / Ms. Leslie Anne M.
