ALL SET FOR THE POLLS. Guimaras Police Provincial Office Director Police Colonel Julio Gustilo says the local police is now ready for the 2019 midterm polls. ILOILO CITY — The head of the Guimaras Police Provincial Office (GPPO) said that in coordination with the Commission on Elections (Comelec), the province is now ready for the May 13 mid-term elections.

“We are already 100 percent ready for the national and local elections. We will deploy at least two police personnel in (each) polling place,” Police Col. Julio Gustilo said in an interview Monday.

Gustilo said the province has no identified area of concern, and remains under the green category. Comelec Resolution 10481 states that areas under the green category have “no security concern” or are “relatively peaceful and orderly”.

Guimaras’ top cop attributed the green classification to the fact that the province has had no election-related incident in the past and the police has not monitored any indication that candidates or their supporters are inclined to commit violence in the elections.

“I hope and I pray that it will continue,” he said.

He noted that contenders in the municipality of Jordan have strong supporters, so they are anticipating an intense political rivalry but the police is “ready to respond.”
The province of Guimaras has five municipalities – Jordan, Buenavista, Sibunag, San Lorenzo and Nueva Valencia.

The province has more or less 105,000 registered voters.
