‘Habagat’, trough of ‘Henry’ to dampen Luzon, W. Visayas

By Ma. Cristina Arayata | Philippine News Agency

The trough of Super Typhoon Henry and the southwest monsoon or “habagat” will bring rains across Luzon and Western Visayas, the weather bureau said Thursday, Sept. 1.

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, and the provinces of Batanes, Cagayan, Zambales, and Bataan.

Flash floods or landslides are possible due to moderate to at times heavy rains, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

“Henry” was last tracked 530 km. east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, and is forecast to bring light to moderate with at times heavy rains over the province beginning Thursday afternoon.

The tropical cyclone packs a maximum sustained winds of 185 kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 230 kph.

It is forecast to enhance the “habagat”, which may bring rains over the western section of Luzon by Friday.

Rough to very rough seas will prevail over the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon (Batanes, Cagayan and the northern coast of Ilocos Norte).

Fishing boats and other small sea vessels are advised not to venture out into the sea, while large sea vessels are alerted against big waves.

Meanwhile, Tropical Depression Gardo is not expected to directly affect the weather and sea conditions of the country.

“Gardo” may likely weaken into a low pressure area within 12 hours or less, PAGASA said.

For the rest of the country, isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms will be experienced.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will also prevail over the rest of the archipelago. – gb
