Holy Week observance in Metro Manila ‘generally peaceful’

By Myris Lee

The observance of Holy Week in Metro Manila was “generally peaceful,” the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said Monday, April 18.

In the Laging Handa Briefing, NCRPO Spokesperson Jenny Tecson said the peace and order in the region was successfully maintained despite the influx of passengers in bus terminals, ports, and areas of convergence in Metro Manila.

“As of today, masasabi po natin na naging generally peaceful ang ating pag-celebrate ng Semana Santa 2022. Bagama’t talagang nagsidagsaan ang ating mga kababayan sa bus terminals, pantalan, at areas of convergence dito sa [NCR], masasabi naman natin na naging maayos ang naging aming pagbabanatay,” Tecson said.

Among the issues that they encountered, Tecson noted, was the traffic congestion in North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) due to the high volume of travelers during the Holy Week.

“Kahapon nakita naman natin na naging bultuhan ang pagdagsa ng ating mga kababayan dito sa NLEX at SLEX,” Tecson added.

Tecson said Metro Manila will remain under Alert Level 1 until the end of April.

After two years of pandemic-related restrictions, traditional Catholic activities which were done virtually, were once again celebrated face-to-face. – gb
