House panel OKs 3 bills vs. COVID-19

The Lower House has approved on the committee level three important bills connected to the fight against COVID-19.

House Defeat COVID-19 Committee first approved CURES Bill or House Bill No. 6709 which is the COVID-19 Unemployment Reduction Economic Stimulus Act of 2020.

The bill includes a Php 1.5 trillion stimulus package which aims to propagate jobs for individuals affected by the pandemic. It is expected to support the “Build, Build, Build” program of the government.

The committee also approved House Bill No. 6707 that encourages the boosting of COVID-19 testing for vulnerable sectors through PCR testing.

House Bill No. 6623 or the New Normal for the Workplace and Public Spaces Act was also okayed. Once passed into law, protocols such as face mask wearing, social distancing, guidelines on education, work and other aspects of the government will be established in response to the pandemic.

Aside form the bills, the committee also submitted two resolutions related to the pandemic problem such as the support to supplemental budget for the agriculture department, and to speed up distribution of the second tranche of SAP.
