House tackles bill creating Department of Water Resources

Led by Albay Rep. Joey Salceda, the Joint Technical Working Group of the House Committees on Government Reorganization, and Public Works and Highways discussed today, 07 October 2019, House Bill No. 8068 penned by Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, which seeks to create the Department of Water Resources. Representatives of the National Water Resources Board, Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System, Local Water Utilities Administration, Maynilad, Manila Water, and other agencies participated in the deliberation. Also tackled in the meeting were the agreements between the government the water concessionaires, division of responsibilities among existing water agencies of the government, and water treatment in the country. The proposed Department of Water Resources came about after water crisis hit some parts of the metropolis earlier this year and to keep this from happening again.
