SANTIAGO CITY, Isabela — The Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) here confiscated and seized hundreds of fake or pellet guns from public markets on Saturday to strictly enforce a two-year-old city ordinance.
Edwin Roxas, DPOS head of Santiago City, said the ordinance, which was approved in 2015, mandates his department, together with the police, to enforce the local law and ensure safety of residents of Santiago City.
He said pellet guns had caused injuries among children, which prompted the Santiago City Council to strictly prohibit the sale of such items in the market.
He sought the assistance of the Market Administration Office to monitor business establishments and to report any vendor still selling pellet guns.
Roxas warned vendors to stop from selling the fake guns as the confiscation campaign will continue.
The confiscated pellet guns were destroyed in public using a back hoe to ensure that the items would no longer be sold back in the market. (PNA)
